Seizure of Timber from a vehicle in the Eco-zone of GHNP

Protection of natural resources, particularly which are in the close vicinity of the human habitation, has been put on the top of the mandates in the management of the National Park by the authorities. To ensure it, the park authorities conduct regular and surprise patrolling and checking of vehicles coming from or passing through the park / eco-zone areas. While conducting such a patrolling near Ropa Complex by the team of forest officers including Sh. Dinesh Kumar, Range Officer, Sainj WL Range, Sh. Narotam, Deputy Ranger and Sh. Vinay Kumar, Forest Guards under the leadership of Dr. Kirupasankar, M. IFS DFO GHNP on midnight of 3rd Dec. 2015, a Mahindra Bolero Pick-up vehicle escorted by another private Alto car, coming from Village Shanghar has not stopped for checking. The team rushed immediately behind both the vehicles and stopped the suspicious vehicle after 3 Km of chasing near Matla Nallah. The driver and other persons managed to escape from the scene having the advantage of night hour.

The vehicle was brought to the Head quarters of GHNP at Shamshi and the officials took cognizance of the case. The Value of timber so seized is about Rs. 1.80 lakhs. A case under Indian Forest Act for unauthorized transportation of timber has been registered. Local communities of the Sainj valley are sensitized about the control of forest offences and to keep vigil on the culprits who exploit the natural resources from the Park area.
